The Magical Ingredient

You made it!  You planned, you packed, you hit the road and now… you’ve finally arrived at your site.
You’re all settled, your stove is out and you even cooked up a fresh, great-looking meal.
But when you go to have that first taste, it’s just… … O-K.  “What does it need?”, you wonder.
It doesn’t need more salt.  It doesn’t need more spice but what can you add to give it a kick?
It’s actually something super simple and you can pack it with you by adding almost zero weight to your rig.  The magical ingredient is…ACID.

That’s right, folks – acid.  One little squeeze of lemon or lime or a drop of your preferred vinegar and blammo!  You just gave your meal the bite it needs to match the beautiful outdoors.

Here are 4 ingredients to look for when adding acid in your meals.

  1. Citrus-  lemon, lime, orange. All super packable and a little squeeze goes a long way to adding that last flavor element to your meals.
  2. Vinegar - I call it the vinegar rainbow.  There are so many great options and I usually try to match the ethnicity of the dish.  White, apple cider, rice, sherry, red wine, balsamic, malt and black are all great options
  3. Mustard - that’s right a little bit of mustard can really compliment your dish.  Choose yellow, dijon, stone ground, dry, Chinese or your favorite.   Mustard also compliments cheesy dishes really well.
  4. Sumac - sumac is a sneaky one and can be a little hard to find.  It’s a middle-eastern spice that has a delightful lemony taste and just a little sprinkle can really bring your meal together.

So, when you’re packing up for your next elevated camp meal, throw in a lemon, a small container of vinegar, a packet of mustard or a little dry spice. Trust us… it will make your belly very happy.

CampNation Expo History

10/5/2022

In 2012 we started producing events for camping enthusiasts. Catering to the vintage trailering community with themed rallies like Trailerfest and Glamperfest. With up to 300 vintage trailers at each outing, live bands, and family fun, these get-togethers always sell out. We are still hosting several rallies each year on the west coast. www.trailerfestrally.com

In 2015 the interest in vintage trailers was growing. There was a demand for an event to teach people how to correctly restore their trailers. We developed the Boot Camp Learning Experience. Boot Camp was a weekend of workshops are presented by professionals willing to share their craft. Each year Boot Camp sold out but due to the format, the workshops were only available to 150 participants a year. Boot Camp had to expand to be accessible to more people. CampNation EXPO was conceived.

We camp in a van, vintage trailers, and a Capri cab-over camper. Many of our friends also have several camping options, from roughing it in tents to 4x4 overlanders and luxury diesel pushers. It became evident that the nation of campers spans various “ways to get there.” We even noticed van and RV restorers attending Boot Camp since many of the same principles apply. Camping is the common thread that these outdoor enthusiasts have in common. Sharing information about the gear and best practices of RVing, and camping is what being a member of CampNation is all about, no matter how you roll.
